The California State Senate is currently considering AB 2844, an unconstitutional attack on our First Amendment right to boycott. AB 2844 seeks to silence opposition to Israel’s human rights abuses against Palestinians by punishing companies for participating in the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement.
If enacted, AB 2844 would require the California Attorney General’s Office to investigate and continually monitor companies that contract or might potentially contract with the state or local public agencies, to discover whether they are engaging in the BDS movement. The Attorney General’s office would then have to publish and maintain a blacklist of such companies.
