Support Religious Freedom, Immigration Bills (SB 31 & SB 54)
CAIR-CA ACTION ALERT: CAIR-CA Asks California Muslims to Support Religious Freedom, Immigration Bills
The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) today asks for your help to pass SB 31 and SB 54. SB 31 (Lara), the California Religious Freedom Act and SB 54 (De Leon), the California Values Act are headed to the Assembly floor. We need your support today to ensure our Assemblymembers pass SB 31 & SB 54.
SB 31: California Religious Freedom Act
This bill would prevent a state or local agency, or a public employee from participating in a federal program to create a database based on a person’s religious beliefs, practices or affiliations, national origin, or ethnicity, for law enforcement or immigration purposes. It would also prevent state and local law enforcement agencies from collecting information on the religious beliefs, practices, or affiliations of an individual.
- CAIR California is co-sponsoring SB 31 in order to proactively defend the California Muslim community from any possible “registry” and protect vulnerable communities from potentially hostile federal immigration policies from the Trump Administration.
SB 54: California Values Act
This bill would protect the safety and well-being of all Californians by ensuring that our state and local resources are not used to fuel mass deportations and would ensure that our schools, health facilities, and courts remain accessible to all Californians. Under the California Values Act, state and local law enforcement agencies, school police, and security departments cannot engage in immigration enforcement except under narrow circumstances.
