Support bills to decrease high maternal mortality rate in Texas

In the Special Session, LWV will support bills that aim to address and reverse the recent, distressing spike in maternal mortality in Texas, including extension of the Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Task Force. Continuation of the Task Force is crucial to identifying the causes of this crisis and implementing solutions that will save women's lives. Bills to extend the Task Force are expected to be filed soon.

SUPPORT bills to reduce the extremely high maternal mortality rate in Texas SB 17 and SB 82

In addition, we also support HB 51 (Thierry) that charges the state's Maternal Morbidity Task Force to study and review health conditions and factors that disproportionately affect the at-risk population - and a similar measure, HB 59 (Walle); and HB 112 (Walle) and companion bill SB 27 (Miles) that ensure a seamless transition in the provision of services between Medicaid or the child health plan and the Texas women's health program.
