Tell Congress to Prioritize Asian American and Pacific Islander Students in ESEA

As your constituent, I write to express support for the inclusion of data disaggregation on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) subgroups in the Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA) reauthorization.

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), a coalition of more than 30 AANHPI organizations around the country, strongly supports the disaggregation of AANHPI data.  NCAPA, educators, administrators, community-based organizations, civil rights groups, and student groups across the country support AANHPI data disaggregation to better target support and resources to students who need it most. This is integral to addressing educational challenges and disparities. 

I ask for your support of AANHPI data disaggregation in ESEA reauthorization--to provide assistance for disaggregation and to make disaggregated data more easily accessible.

AANHPI students are highly diverse, with varying socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, and needs. Failing to disaggregate the data denies students equal opportunities and masks the inequalities faced by many subsets of the AANHPI population, particularly Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander groups. 

Please don’t continue to allow the diversity and needs of AANHPI students to remain invisible in our education system. Support AANHPI data disaggregation in the ESEA reauthorization conference.
