Please sign on to the letter from Rep. Paul Broun, M.D.

As a constituent, I am writing to ask you to sign on to Rep. Paul Broun's letter to President Obama opposing Brunei's entrance into the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement.  

* The deadline for Congress' signatures is Friday, August 1.

On May 1st, Brunei announced it is introducing a new criminal code based on Sharia law.  This would deny religious freedom to Christians and prescribe harsh punishments for them, including amputation and stoning.  Christians will face fines and jail terms for offenses like failing to attend Friday prayers at the mosque.  Churches are unable to perform baptisms, if they are even able to exist at all.  People who convert to Christianity can lose custody of their children.  Missionaries face prison time and Bibles cannot be brought into the country. 

We do not want to engage in a business contract with a country that has such laws.

Further, Brunei's neighboring countries, Indonesia and Malaysia are under pressure to adopt Sharia law.  If we allow Brunei to enter into TPP negotiations, we are setting a bad example for those countries, effectively saying that we will give the economic privileges afforded by the TPP to those who codify religious intolerance.

Representative Paul Broun, M.D. (R GA-10) has written a "Dear Colleague" letter designed to send a clear message to President Obama that we should not being doing business with Brunei.
