Demand USDA end cruel lamb research!
I was shocked to learn about the taxpayer-funded “pasture lamb” experiments at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Nebraska, attempting to breed lambs who can survive on their own, immediately after birth, in open fields with little human intervention. These experiments appear to be nothing but unjustifiable cruelty to defenseless baby animals. While I am pleased that USDA is finally looking into improving conditions for animals at MARC, I am deeply disturbed to learn that the “pasture lamb” project has been allowed to continue. The lamb project shocks the conscience and is completely unjustifiable under any circumstances. No animal should be subjected to the ruthless cruelty of death by starvation or exposure to the elements. I ask that you end this protocol immediately and permanently. I would appreciate a response affirming that USDA will bring a rapid end to this taxpayer-funded animal cruelty and abandonment.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack
